There are many outfits to unlock for Mario Kart World’s main characters, unlocked by using Dash Food bags from around the map. Some outfits are a little tougher to unlock than others, as they only unlock from specific Dash Food that isn’t as common as other types.
This article lists the hardest outfits to unlock in Mario Kart World and explains exactly how to unlock them in your own MKW game.
IGN Guides 2025 Technical Upgrades and Bug Fixes
We've worked on greatly speeding up Guides and Maps load times. If you’ve encountered some page reload and crash errors on iOS devices in the past, it should once again be smooth sailing. We won’t bore you with the details, but our product and engineering team worked to refactor guides pages to prevent an iOS browser quirk from jumping you to the top, refreshing the page, and eventually failing to load. A big thanks to everyone who wrote in to help us track down the issue!
Hardest Outfits to Unlock in Mario Kart World
While none of the 103 unlockable outfits in Mario Kart World are particularly difficult to unlock if you know where to look, some are harder than others because of the type of Dash Food bag used to obtain them. Particular food unlocks a certain costume for each character, and some food can only be found in specific areas, while others are more common and appear across the map.
Dash Food is found at vendors such as Yoshi's Diner and vending machines. It also appears on top of vehicles or on the road during races on certain tracks.

We'd recommend unlocking outfits in Free Roam rather than during Grand Prix or Knockout Tour races, as you can find the Dash Food bags more easily with zero pressure.

Pro Racer Mario and Luigi

Mario and Luigi's Pro Racer outfits can only be unlocked from two areas on the Mario Kart World map, meaning you have to track them down if you want them specifically. They can both only be unlocked by eating Royal Patisserie Desserts in Peach Stadium or Crown City.
Both Peach Stadium and Crown City are located on the southern section of the map in Free Roam. If you'd prefer to unlock them via Grand Prix races, you can find Crown City in the Mushroom Cup and Shell Cup, and Peach Stadium in the Shell Cup and Special Cup.

Happi Mario, Happi Luigi, Matsuri Yoshi, and Yukata Peach

Happi Mario, Happi Luigi, Matsuri Yoshi, and Yukata Peach can only be unlocked on the Cheep Cheep Falls track in Mario Kart World, specifically by eating Sushi and Festival Food, which is Candy Apples, Taiyaki, and Takoyaki.
Cheep Cheep Falls is located east of Peach Stadium on the Free Roam map. It's also in the Grand Prix Leaf Cup.

Farmer Luigi

Luigi's Farmer outfit is obtained by eating Milk and Frozen Yogurt, which is only found in Moo Moo Meadows.
Moo Moo Meadows is located in the middle of the Mario Kart World map in Free Roam, north of Peach Stadium. You'll also find it in the Grand Prix Lightning Cup.

Oasis Luigi, Daisy, and Wario

Oasis Luigi, Oasis Daisy, and Oasis Wario are unlocked by eating Pita Plates, found only in the Shy Guy Bazaar, Desert Hills, and Boo Cinema.
Shy Guy Bazaar and Desert Hills are located on the west side of the Mario Kart World map and in the Grand Prix Flower Cup. Boo Cinema is in the northeast section of the map and in the Grand Prix Leaf Cup.

Fisherman Lakitu

The Fisherman Lakitu outfit is unlocked on the Cheep Cheep Falls track in Mario Kart World, specifically by eating Sushi and Festival Food, which is Candy Apples, Taiyaki, and Takoyaki. It can also be unlocked by eating a Shish Kebab, which is easiest to find in Shy Guy Bazaar.
Cheep Cheep Falls is located east of Peach Stadium on the Free Roam map. It's also in the Grand Prix Leaf Cup. Shy Guy Bazaar is located on the west side of the map and in the Grand Prix Flower Cup.
