Magic: The Gathering has had another big year, and while next year brings more Marvel, as well as Star Trek and a return to Middle-earth, we’re now two sets removed from the Final Fantasy crossover.
That means that, while the booster boxes can be tough to find, the Commander Decks are seeing price cuts. They’ve already been discounted in recent weeks, but now the Scions and Spellcraft deck from Final Fantasy XIV is seeing a 43% discount and is now down to just $39.99.
Yes, The Scions and Spellcraft Deck Is Great
Yes, we know, we rated Scions and Spellcraft third in our ranking of the four Commander decks for the Final Fantasy set, but that doesn’t make it a bad deck.
It’s unusual in that it’s an Esper deck (White, Black, Blue) that’s all about chaining together spells to do damage around the table. Get some mana out early, though, and it can be devastating, whether you’re pumping up tokens or just turning damage into card draw so you can always have a response to any threat.
It’s not as big on high-earning reprints, but if you’re a Final Fantasy XIV fan who wants to play Magic: The Gathering, you won’t care one bit.
Elsewhere, Counter Blitz (the Final Fantasy X deck we put top of our rankings), is $10 more but still reduced by almost 30%.
It’s not the easiest deck for newcomers, but once you start manipulating counters of all kinds with Tidus, you’ll find your Summons can be cheated into lasting much longer than initially intended.
If you held your nerve when the decks sold out early on and prices soared, you should feel very smug.
